Esh Village Residents' Association Annual General Meeting 2017

This year, EVRA will be holding it's AGM on 9th February at 7.30pm in The Cross Keys pub. As in previous years, the meeting gives us a chance to let people know what we've been up to this year, to present the accounts, and to open up opportunities and ideas for getting involved in the year ahead.

We'll also hear from a speaker from St John's Ambulance on first aid and resuscitation. This links in with our hopes to have a village defibrillator installed in the village in the next few months and should be a great evening.

All are welcome - the more the merrier!

Esh Village Residents' Association October Meeting

The next residents' association meeting will take place this Thursday, 8th October, at 7.30pm in The Cross Keys.

Items on the agenda include: starting to forge our Christmas plans (already?!); planting the village tubs with winter bedding, and an update on the progress we've making with the Police on speeding in Esh.

Everyone is very welcome to join us - whether you've attended a meeting before or not - a cosy pub and a catch up with friends is an excellent tonic as autumn sets in!

Esh Residents' Monthly Meeting

Our next EVRA meeting will take place tomorrow night, Thursday 9th July, at 7.30pm in The Cross Keys.

We are delighted to be joined by Andy Coulthard from the Mid-Durham Area Action Partnership and our country councillors, Joe and Barbara Armstrong, who will be leading a discussion on the work done by the AAP in the area and their aims and plans for the coming year.

Andy and his team have been instrumental in working with EVRA to ask for better service provision to the village: emptying street drains, cutting grass verges (yes, there's still more we can do on this one!), cracking down on litter and dog fouling, and seeking ways to tackle speeding and inconsiderate parking in the village. Everyone is very welcome to join us tomorrow night - the more the merrier!

Esh Village Residents' Association Meeting, Thursday 21st May

EVRA's next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday 21st May, 7.30pm, in The Cross Keys.

Items on the agenda include: the organisation of our summer event in June on the village green; installation of the wooden poppies by the entrance to St Michael's church to commemorate the World Wars, and the village's participation in the national Heritage Weekend scheme, as well plenty of opportunities to get outside, re-planting the flower tubs for the summer months.

Everyone living in the village is warmly invited to join the meeting: you don't have to sign up to anything, and there are no obligations to participate in any of the litter picks... The meetings are a great opportunity just to get together, meet new people and catch up with friends, and come up with ways to make Esh an even better place to live... oh, and perhaps to enjoy a pint or two!

Hooky and Proggy: A Clippy Mat Demonstration at The Cross Keys

If you've ever wondered what a proddy, cleekie, clootie, stobby, poked, tab, broddy, bodged or peg rug is, then now is time to find out! All of these terms refer to 'clippy mats': rag rugs made on a frame using strips of colourful cloth.

On Tuesday 24th March 2015, there will be a demonstration of clippy mat-making in The Cross Keys Pub, from 1-3pm. Everyone is welcome: entrance costs £4.00. Do come along if you can - the more the merrier!

 

EVRA AGM: 12th February 2015

A quick reminder that the Esh Village Residents' Association will be holding its Annual General Meeting tomorrow night, 12th February 2015, at 7.30pm in The Cross Keys.

Everyone is welcome: items on the agenda include traffic and speeding (with input from our local police officers), the development of the new village playground, and planned events and new clubs for 2015. Our invited speakers are Father John Marsland and Peter Seed from Ushaw College, who will be introducing the new plans for Ushaw as it opens its doors to the public. Monthly Live Music at The Cross Keys

The Cross Keys pub, our village local, is fast gaining a reputation for great live music.

Each 3rd Wednesday of the month sees a talented group of fiddlers, accordionists, hurdy gurdy players and guitarists get together to perform finger-snapping, toe-tapping folk music whilst local punters enjoy the real ales from local breweries such as Black Sheep, Wylam and Allendale. The perfect antidote to these chilly winter evenings...

'Walk the County'

The Esh Leaves Women's Institute will be taking part in the 'Walk the County' charity walk to raise money for the A.C.W.W. (Associated Country Women of the World) on Tuesday 28th October 2014. All are welcome: the walk will leave from outside the Cross Keys pub at 2.00pm and takes approx. 45 minutes. The cost per walker will be £1.00 and refreshments will be available afterwards at the Cross Keys.

New! Esh Sewing Circle

The Esh Sewing Circle holds its first meeting this month on 19th November, from 2-4pm in the Cross Keys.

Whether you're a finger-pricking novice, a deft darner of socks, or a closet couturier, everyone is welcome to come along.
